BATTLE CREEK (Mich.) – Atlas Sales Inc., and craft brewer partner Territorial Brewing Co. delivered hundreds of cases of water to Flint on Monday (April 4, 2016) as the city with more than 90,000 people continues to grapple with a lead-poisoning water crisis. The two companies, together with Schweitzer Construction, each provided 60 cases of water, with Atlas and Territorial delivering the water to Flint.
Atlas Sales and our employees have been following this crisis unfold and we wanted to do something positive that could bring some small relief to the families of Flint during this difficult time,” said Atlas Sales Vice President Bud Dunn. “We are grateful to our craft brewer partner, Territorial Brewing Co., and Schweitzer Construction for their role in this humanitarian effort. The Flint water crisis is a massive, unprecedented public health challenge that will require a massive response and though Battle Creek is 100 miles from Flint, we felt we needed to respond to help in any way we can.”
Atlas Sales is donating 60 cases of water, matching the 60 cases that Territorial Brewing Co. collected through a water drive. Battle Creek-based Schweitzer Construction chipped in another 60 cases. With 24 bottles per case, more than 4,300 bottles will be delivered to St. Peter CME Church in Flint. Territorial Brewing also raised more than $700 through a silent auction and other contributions, which Territorial donated to Dozier CME Church in Flint.
“Territorial Brewing Co. and our employees are fully committed to doing something to help the families of Flint, and we’re very pleased with the response from our community and from our businesses partners, who stepped up and donated water,” said Territorial Brewing Co. Cofounder Charles Grantier. “Our employees, friends and neighbors didn’t think twice. They opened their hearts and their wallets and made this water donation possible, and we’re thankful to Atlas for being a true partner to support Flint families.”
About Atlas Sales Inc.
Atlas Sales, Inc. has been in operation as a family owned beverage distribution company since 1933, serving the Battle Creek and surrounding areas. The company was founded by Theron (Pick) Fagan after the repeal of prohibition in 1933. Atlas Sales was one of the first companies organized to distribute beer and wine when Prohibition ended in Michigan. During the past eight decades, the company has been located in five different warehouses that were ever larger and more modern. After Fagan’s death in 1983, Fagan’s wife Frankie Fagan took over. She then passed the business down to her son, Greg Dunn.
In addition to providing quality beverages and services, Atlas today is a major employer in the Battle Creek area and is actively involved in numerous community charities, events, programs and other humanitarian causes. Atlas is especially active in statewide efforts to fight illegal underage drinking and reduce drunken driving, working in conjunction with law enforcement agencies, community advocates and education leaders.
