PORT HURON – While the popcorn drive for the Boy Scouts of America may be coming to a close for 2013, the highly popular fundraising effort in Port Huron has received assistance form an unlikely source: Gerry’s Distributing Co., a beer and beverage distributing company based in Port Huron. Every fall for the past four years, Gerry’s employees have assisted the Boy Scouts of America with the gourmet popcorn they sell every fall to raise funds for camping trips, sporting events, equipment, uniforms and other activities. Gerry’s employees volunteer their time and equipment, storing the popcorn until it is ready to be delivered. Each shipment is about a truckload of popcorn, and Gerry’s receives two shipments in fall, one in September and one in November. “As a local business, many of our employees are actively involved in the community, including with the Boy Scouts, so this volunteer opportunity was a way for our company to give back for a good cause and help families in our area,” said Ian Johnson, Operations Manager of Gerry’s Distributing. “Our company has deep roots in the Blue Water area and we’re happy to do what we can to support people doing great work in the community. The popcorn is terrific, what the Boy Scouts do to build character of young boys is invaluable, and we’re proud to support them.” Gerry’s Distributing delivers MillerCoors beer products, imports, Michigan craft beers and non‐alcoholic beverages. The company was founded in Port Huron and today delivers its products to St. Clair, Sanilac, Huron and Tuscola counties in the Thumb.
